Post-composition depression

Very often after I “give birth” to a new piece I enter a period of despair (post-composition depression?) during which I start feeling I will never be able to compose anything else. I know this feeling because it presents itself regularly but nonetheless it is always painful.
I force myself not to pay much attention to it and to start working on something else but if I do not find new ideas quickly I really start doubting about my musical skills.
I repeat to myself not to worry, that it is always like that and that sooner or later ideas will arrive if only I keep trying and searching. It has always worked this way for me, without exception.
I am no Mozart, my well of ideas is intermittent and, of course, their value is debatable but anyway, that’s the price I have to pay to get admitted to the world of creativity.
So, until next crisis...let’s get busy!

Funziona sempre così per me, senza eccezioni.
